Morecambe 2nds had a very disappointing Bank Holiday weekend, Saturdays game verses Penrith was a complete wash out without a ball being bowled followed by defeat at St Annes on Bank Holiday Monday.
Asked to bat first Lewis Smith was run out quickly followed by Ghosal. Fisher (20) steadied the ship a little before falling weakly to Banks. Bray then joined Maje to take the total beyond the 100 mark. It was a surprise when Maje was caught for 46. Graves followed with the score on 120. It was left to club legend Phil Thornton 40 not out to carry the visitors to a reasonable total supported well by Bray who finished on 44 not out. On a wicket offering some assistance 176-5 looked a reasonable total.
Despite an early breakthrough from Lewis Smith, St Annes scored at a consistent rate both Wilks and Bradley dispatched anything full to the boundary. The introduction of Maje slowed the rate at one end but run continued to flow as the other Morecambe bowlers struggled for consistency. Debutant Liam Pemberton was unlucky not snare his first victim as Morecambe also dropped five catches during the St Annes innings. Maje made a couple of breakthroughs on his way to excellent figures of 2-20 off 12 overs. However the St Annes victory never looked in doubt, even the removal of the excellent Bradley for 75 only delayed the inevitable. St Annes finally past the victory mark with 2 overs to spare
