Maje & Pedder make hay in the Darwen mud

Darwen 2nds 134-9 (2pts) v *Morecambe 2nds 207-2 (10pts)

Morecambe travelled to Darwen on Saturday looking for their victory of the season. The day was marked by two fine allround performances by Gareth Pedder and Gulam Maje. Asked to bat first they started carefully on a very soft bowler friendly. Maje & Pedder went to the way point scoring just 55 without loss.  Drinks proved to be the turning point in the innings.  First Maje and then Pedder took the initiative both punishing anything loose.  They both passed 50 as the pace accelerated,  the pair finally added 191 when Gulam Maje was finally dismissed for an excellent 78. A final onslaught saw Gareth Pedder beyond the 100 mark surpassing last week's efforts.  He finally finshed 113 not out as Morecambe closed on 207.

Darwens reply never got started as Qayyum struck early, backed up by the irrepressible Maje. Darwen were soon in trouble Jackson and Douglas offered some resistance, Maje trapped Jackson to finish his spell with 3-34. The wickets never came at the rate that gave the impression of a easy victory,  Pedder chipped away whilst Lewis Smith had an impressive debut bowling exceptionally well. It was the reintroduction of Qayyum (3-23) with 2 wickets in two balls which triggerdd the victory push.  In spite of Pedder's (3-15) best efforts Darwen held  out for the draw
