Opting to bat first Morecambe started well with both Adam Derham and Dennison looking in good touch, The score reached 78 before Derham was caught for 28, Dennison soon followed for 48. With the innings back in the balance Pedder and Matthew Derham played sensibly against some tight bowling. The middle overs produced just 32 runs off 14 overs, however whilst Pedder was presence at the crease there was always danger for the visitors. He began to lift the tempo to such extent that when Durham was bowled for 12 in the 39th over Pedder had progressed to 64. In reply the Penrith innings never really gained any momentum or showed any great urgency in chasing down the Morecambe total.
